As support and development for this software has been withdrawn we no longer recommend using this to upload your files to your Freeola Hosting Service.

However, this guide will remain available for reference purposes.

If you are looking to upload your website files we would recommend the Filezilla FTP Client, a secure, supported, software designed specifically for uploading your files via FTP.

Welcome to the Freeola Internet customer support pages. This guide is designed to help with uploading your website via FTP using Web Artist 1 for any Freeola hosted website. For more internet help topics please visit our main Support Page.

In order to upload files to any Freeola hosted website you will need to access your webspace via FTP. Most, if not all, web design programs feature an element of FTP uploading but it is always advisable, and more stable, to upload using one of many FTP clients available. This page gives brief instructions on one of these, Web Artist 1.

Please note, there is a separate guide for Web Artist 2 as the instructions differ from those below. This guide assumes that you have yet to create a website, if you have already done so please skip to step 11.

1. Load the Web Artist program.

2. Close 'Tip of the Day' and select Create a web site from scratch, Click OK.

3. You will be presented with a blank window titled Page 1. Select a background from the panel at the top and drag it in to Page 1.

4. Select the text icon/button at the top of the page.

5. Select a font at the top of the page and drag it on top of your new background.

6. Type some text in to the text box such as 'Welcome to the web site of Fred Smith, I haven't moved in yet so call back soon!'.

7. Format the text using the tools in the top left corner of the screen. Make sure the page is set to be the homepage (also known as the index page - the first page that people see when they type your web address) by checking that the icon in the right hand pane next to Page 1 is a picture of a house. If it isn't, right-click the icon to change it. You do not need to manually name this page to make it an index page as Web Artist handles this automatically.

8. Add a graphic or two from the clipart button on the top bar.

9. From the File menu (top left) select Save Web Site As...

10. Name the web site htdocs.ows (must be lower case). You must use this name otherwise your site will not appear on the Internet

11. With your website opened, from the File menu select Save Web Site to Internet...

12. A new dialogue will appear asking for your FTP settings. These are as follows:
    
    Host FTP Address: The FTP Server address listed within in the My Websites section of your MyFreeola account.
    
    Host Directory: This needs to be set to htdocs or public_html depending on your hosting subscription. It is imperative that this is entered with all lower-case characters.
    
    User ID: This is the same as your web space username and will begin with cp, vip or sr. This can also be found in the My Websites section of MyFreeola.
    
    Password: This is the password connected to your FTP username.

13. The program should now go through the process of uploading your web site. When it has completed, load a web browser and type in your web address.
