How to view the SSL Certificate of a Website

Welcome to the Freeola Internet customer support pages. This guide is designed to explain how to view the details of an SSL certificate on any website you visit through your web browser. For more internet help topics please visit our main Support Page.

With the rise in popularity, and necessity, of SSL Certificates and HTTPS access to the websites you visit, nearly every website you navigate to will now have an SSL Certificate attached that is validated and endorsed by a reputable organisation.

Should you wish to view details of this certificate, you can do so quickly and easily from your web browser.

This guide will show you how to do this in the most popular browser software currently available.


FireFox
  1. From the Address Bar, click on the Padlock icon.

  2. On the drop-down menu that appears, click on Connection Secure.

  3. Next, click on More information.

  4. A pop-up window will now appear, with Security already highlighted. From this window click View Certificate.

  5. Firefox will now open a new page with the certificate information for the website you are on.

Edge
  1. From the Address Bar, click the Padlock Icon.

  2. On the drop-down menu that appears, click Connection is secure.

  3. Now click the Certificate Icon.

  4. The Certificate information will then appear in new window.

Chrome
  1. In the Address Bar, click the Site Information button (two sliders next to URL).

  2. On the drop-down menu that appears, click Connection is secure.

  3. Finally, click Certificate is valid.

  4. The SSL Certificate information for the site you are on will now open in new window.

Safari
  1. From the Address Bar, click the Padlock Icon.

  2. In the drop-down that appears, click View Certificate (or Show Certificate).

  3. A window will now open giving basic details of the certificate in place on the site you are visiting.

  4. If you are interesting in more information on this certificate, click the drop-down arrow next to Details to view the full certificate details.
