Last updated on by Freeola Support
Welcome to the Freeola Internet customer support pages. This guide is designed to help with setting up a TPLink Router to work as a modem only (called bridge mode). For more internet help topics please visit our main Support Page.
While this guide was written using the model TD-W9960 as a base, these instructions should still be correct for other models of the hardware, albeit with some slight wording and visual differences.
If you have a TP-Link modem and would like to use a separate router or switch, you will need to set up the TP-Link as a 'pure' modem (sometimes called Bridge Mode).
This short guide will outline how to make this change to your hardware.
In the address bar of your web browser enter the default IP address of the router, http://192.168.1.1.
If you are unsure of where the address bar is on your software, the keyboard shortcut of Ctrl+L is widely used to highlight this field. You will now be prompted to Login to your router.
When first setting up your router you will have created a router password, by default this will likely have been admin.Once logged in, select the Advanced tab from the top navigation menu.
From the page that appears, select Network then Internet in the left-hand menu.
Click Add (+ Icon) then enter the following in the Internet Connection Setup window:
DSL Modulation Type: VDSL.
VLAN ID: Enable.
VLAN ID: 101.
Internet Connection Type: Bridge.
Click Save to store your changes and enable the Modem Only mode.
You can now connect your second router using the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer.
