If you have a file or document you would like to share with your site visitors, the RQS Easy Website Builder allows you to quickly and easily upload this to the Freeola Servers and link to it on your website using text, images or a button.
This process can be used for a large number of different filetypes, but this guide will focus on the most popular - PDF. However, the process for sharing other file extensions will be exactly the same.
Before being able to link your visitors to your document you will first need to upload this to the RQS Servers. The easiest way of doing so is via the Media Library.
To quickly access the Media Library select Media then Manage Media Library from the top RQS Menu. However, as we are planning to immediately upload a file, select Media then Upload Media.
To upload your file, click Browse Files then select your file from the window that opens, before clicking Open to add this file to the upload queue.
You can also use this window to select multiple files at once, should you wish to add more than one file at this time.
As soon as the Progress bar is at 100% and Details shows Success you can click Finish to add this file to your Media Library.
If you are following this guide and selected the Upload Media option you will be returned to the builder. If you chose to upload your files from the Media Library then you will be shown your Library files first.
Once you have uploaded your document to the RQS Builder you will now need to allow your visitors to view it. This can be done using a Text Link, Image Link, Button or Icon.
The most common way to link visitors to your document is via a text link. This will function like any other text link on your site whereby your visitor will click a word, or series of words, to open your document.
The following steps assume you have already created your text area. For a guide on adding a new Content Section to your site, please visit our Content Section Guide.
To add your text link, open the RQS Editor and Right-Click your Content Area, then Edit Content. Next, Right-Click your Text Area then Edit Text Area to bring up the Text Editor.
Within the Text Area highlight the word, or series of words, then click the Link Icon from the menu.
This will open the Edit Link window, initially providing three options. From the top option select Link To / Upload a File then click into the empty File Name field.
This will open the Media Library from which you can select your desired file. Click Select Media once you have chosen your file to return to the Edit Link window.
Click Finish to save which automatically opens the Insert/Edit Link window from which you can further edit your link by providing optional Mouseover Text (a small pop-up visitors will see when hovering their mouse cursor over the link) and selecting how you would like the link to open.
Click OK then Finish to return to the editor with your new link in place.
You are also able to link visitors to your document via an image link. This means that instead of clicking on text your visitor will click an image to open your document.
The following steps assume you have already added your image to your Content Area. For a guide on adding a new Content Section to your site, please visit our Content Section Guide.
To add your image link open the RQS Editor and Right-Click your Content Area, then Edit Content. Next, Right-Click your Image then Image Settings.
This will open the Image Settings window, offering three options to edit your Image. For the purposes of this guide, only the top field, Image Link / Click Action, is relevant. From this option, select Link.
This will expand the window with new fields. To connect this Image to your Document, click Create Link within the Link To section.
This will open the Edit Link window, initially providing three options. From the top option select Link To / Upload a File then click into the empty File Name field.
The Media Library will now open, from which you can select your desired file. Click Select Media once you have chosen your file to return to the Edit Link window.
Click Finish to save and return to the Image Settings window. From here you can change optional settings to open the document in a new tab and to add a Link Title.
Click Finish or click outside of the pop-up window to save your changes and return to the RQS Builder.
The Button feature gives you another option to use to link your visitors to the document you have uploaded.
To add a Button to your Content Section right-click anywhere within the section then click Add Page Element. From the secondary menu that opens, select Add Button.
After selecting the Button Element from this menu you will be able to position this within your Content Section by using your mouse cursor then left-clicking to save.
Once you have selected the location for the button you can use the anchor points to increase or decrease its size and shape. In the below example we have placed the Button in the centre of our Content Section and made it wider.
Once you have your desired button size, Right-Click then select Edit Button.
The Edit Button window that appears lets you set the Button Text - the wording on the button itself - and the Link Location - where the visitor is taken after clicking the button.
To set up the link to your document click Create Link within the Link Location section.
This will open the Edit Link window, initially providing three options. From the top option select Link To / Upload a File then click into the empty File Name field.
The Media Library will now open, from which you can select your desired file. Click Select Media once you have chosen your file to return to the Edit Link window.
Click Finish to save and return to the Edit Button window.
In the below example we have linked our button to the PDF file uploaded earlier.
Click Finish then Finish again (or click outside of the pop-up window) to save your changes and return to the RQS Builder.
The colour and corner style of your Buttons can be set within the Website Styling menus. Our guide on using this menu can be read here.
Finally, if you would prefer a very small image as a link to your document you can use an Icon.
To add an Icon to your Content Section right-click anywhere within the section then click Add Page Element. From the secondary menu that opens, select Add Icon.
After selecting the Icon Element from this menu you will be able to position this within your Content Section by using your mouse cursor then left-clicking to save.
Once you have selected the location for the icon you can use the anchor points to increase or decrease the size and shape of the element - the Icon size will not change.
Now to set your link, Right-Click the Icon then select Edit Icon.
The Edit Icon window will now open and allow you to select an Icon from a drop-down list, add Icon Text (an optional field that provides context for the button) and set your Link Location.
From the Link Location section click Create Link.
This will open the Edit Link window, initially providing three options. From the top option select Link To / Upload a File then click into the empty File Name field.
The Media Library will now open, from which you can select your desired file. Click Select Media once you have chosen your file to return to the Edit Link window.
Click Finish to save and return to the Edit Icon window.
In the below example we have linked our Icon to the PDF file uploaded earlier.
Click Finish then Finish again (or click outside of the Content Section) to save your changes and return to the RQS Builder.
