Basic router setup for G.fast connections

This guide is for routers that support WAN connections. Usually this means that they may have a built in VDSL (for FTTC) or ADSL modem but can also connect to an external modem, such as the G.fast modem. Routers marketed as 'cable provider' compatible may also work.
G.fast broadband is installed by an Openreach engineer who will change the master socket to a NTE5C and G.fast faceplate along with an Openreach Modem (usually a Huawei MT992). This modem is then connected to the master socket using an RJ11 cable and to your router using a standard CAT5e (or better) ethernet cable.
A majority of routers have a web based interface that can be accessed by typing in the IP Address of your router into your web browser address bar. This address is typically http://192.168.1.1 but can differ depending on the router manufacturer and model, your router manual will be able to give you further information on this.

For single static IP connection the connection should be set to retrieve the WAN IP, DNS and gateway automatically (DHCP).
Encapsulation: PPPoE
If the router has settings for downstream and upstream throughput settings (such as AVM Fritz!Box) these should be set to match the tier of tariff you are on. So in the case of G.fast 330/50 330mbps download is "3300000" kbit/s and a 50mbps upload is "50000" kbit/s.
