Dial Up Settings for Windows 8

Welcome to the Freeola Internet customer support pages. This guide is designed to help with setting up a dial-up connection on Windows 8. For more internet help topics please visit our main Support Page.

 

Please Note

This guide assumes you are using the Windows 8 Operating System on a PC or Notebook/Laptop with a traditional mouse and cursor system. If your device is 'touch-enabled' please 'tap' the relevant options instead of clicking.

 

Please follow the instructions below for help setting up Windows 8 to connect to Freeola using a Dial-Up Internet Connection.

 

  1. Open the Connect to the Internet wizard by pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen,  clicking Search, and then typing Network before selecting the Network and Sharing Centre tile that is presented.

  2. Now select Set up a new connection or network.

  3. When prompted to Choose a connection option, you will need to select the option to Set up a dial-up connection and press Next.

  4. You will then be asked to Type the information from your Internet service provider (ISP). The username and password settings can be Anything.

    When using the Pay-As-you-Go dial-up service, the dial-up service telephone number should be set to 0845 123 2035.

    In order for Windows to save your password so that it does not need to be entered each time, you should tick the box labelled Remember this password.

    The Connection name refers to the name that your dial-up connection will be listed as on your computer and should be set to a name unique to this connection, for example Freeola Dial-up.

    If you have multiple accounts on your computer and would like other users to be able to access this connection, you may wish to tick the Allow other people to user this connection option to make this connection available to all users of this computer.

  5. If you then press connect, your computer will attempt to dial a connection to the Internet.

  6. You should now be taken to a screen advising that You are connected to the Internet. If this shows, congratulations, your connection is now ready for use.

Using your Dial-up Connection on Windows 8

 

Once the dial-up connection is configured on Windows 8, please follow the instructions below for help connecting to, or disconnect from, the Internet. If you have not already configured Windows 8 for Freeola Dial-up, please follow the instructions above.

 

Connecting using Freeola Dial-up


In order to connect to Freeola Dial-up, you will first need to point to the top-right corner of the screen, then select Settings from the menu, then the Network Icon towards the bottom of the screen. You should then be presented with your available connections.

 

Selecting your dial-up connection will present a Connect option, which should be selected to go online.

Disconnecting Freeola Dial-up


To disconnect from the Dial-up service, you will need to point to the top-right corner of the screen, then select Settings from the menu, then the Network Icon towards the bottom of the screen. You should then be presented with your available connections.

 

Selecting your dial-up connection will present a Disconnect option, which should be selected to take your modem offline.

 

Alternatively, while in 'Desktop' mode, right-clicking the Internet icon in the System Tray will present you with a Disconnect option.
