Welcome to the Freeola Internet customer support pages. This guide is designed to help with uploading your website via FTP using Web Artist 2 for any Freeola hosted website. For more internet help topics please visit our main Support Page.
In order to upload files to any Freeola hosted website you will need to access your webspace via FTP. Most, if not all, web design programs feature an element of FTP uploading but it is always advisable, and more stable, to upload using one of many FTP clients available. This page gives brief instructions on one of these, Web Artist 2.
Before you start with the FTP upload please ensure at this point that you have your Freeola internet connection currently connected or your domain name is signed up for our VIP Hosting service. For further information on uploading via FTP please read our Basic Guide to FTP and Web Space.
Please note, there is a separate guide for Web Artist 1 as the instructions differ from those below. This guide assumes that you have yet to create a website, if you have already done so please skip to step 6.
1. Load Web Artist 2 (You do not need to be connected to the Internet yet). A dialogue box will appear, click on Create a website from scratch or click Close and choose File then New from the File menu. You will be presented with a blank white screen called 'Page 1'.
2. Click on the Background tab on the left hand side-bar of your screen, select a background for your web page and drag and drop the icon into the blank window.
3. To add some text to your page, click on the Text tab on the left hand side-bar. Choose a text icon and drag and drop it into the 'page 1' window. Now add some text. Format the text using the tools in the top of the screen.
4. Repeat this process for adding other elements to your page such as navigation buttons, sounds and clipart images.
5. Once you have created your web site, select Save from the File menu and name the web site htdocs.ows (must be lower case). You must use this name otherwise your site will not appear on the Internet.
6. With your website open select Save website to the Internet from the File menu.
7. The Upload box will appear, you will now need to enter your FTP connection details to upload your web site. These details will be stored in Web Artist for future uploads or updates to your site which means you only need to enter these details once.
8. Click New then Next.
9. In the Destination Name box give your connection a name (for example, the name of your web site such as 'Freds Site'), in the Destination box below choose Other and click Next.
10. Enter your FTP User Name in the Username box and your FTP Password in the Password box, click Next. The FTP Username is the same as your web space sr-number (vip-number for VIP customers) the FTP Password is the password connected to your FTP username. This also can be found in the My Websites section of MyFreeola.
11. Enter your FTP server address as the FTP Destination address. The FTP Server address differs depending on which hosting service you receive from Freeola. If you are using a Freeola Internet connection or have signed up to our Web Freedom service the server address will be in the form of 'freeolawebX.freeola.net' where the 'X' is the last digit of your FTP server username. If you are subscribed to our VIP Hosting service the server name will be 'vipX.freeola.net'. This can be found in the My Websites section of MyFreeola.
12. Enter htdocs the Directory Path field and click Next.
13. Enter your web address as the Home Page and click Finish. As explained in the Basic Guide to FTP & Web Space, your web address will either be based on any of your Freeola500 addresses or your own Domain Name. For example, the e-mail address 'bob@spursfans.com' translates to the web address of 'www.bob.spursfans.com'. Similarly, if you have your own domain hosted at Freeola (for example, 'tomhoy.com') the web address would be 'www.tomhoy.com'.
14. Select the Destination you just created and click Upload.. When the transfer is complete, click the Preview button to view your web site.
We recommend you read the user manual that was included with Web Artist for information on the entire range of features available.
