Web Space: Upload Guide For Internet Explorer 6
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, the popular web browser which is built into most recent versions of Windows also contains a very basic FTP client that can be used to upload files to your web space account. Here is a very simple guide to uploading files to your Freeola web space.
Before you start, please ensure you are connected to the Internet via your Freeola Connection. FTP and file uploads are only possible when you are connected to the Internet via Freeola. If you attempt to connect via another service provider you will receive an error message.
If you do need to upload using another provider's internet connection then you can sign up for our package called "Web Freedom" from your MyFreeola account.
1. Open an Internet Explorer window.
2. In the 'location' area of the toolbar at the top of the window you need to type in a complete FTP server path which includes your Freeola User Name and Freeola Password.
The diagram below (taken from Netscape but Internet Explorer works in the same way) demonstrates this further. This example assumes you have the e-mail address 'bob@spursfans.com' which translates to the web address 'www.bob.spursfans.com'.
3. Your location bar should now be similar to one of the above examples shown. Press the 'Enter' button on your keyboard to continue.
4. Click the 'htdocs' directory - this is the directory that should contain all your web files. This subject is explained further in the Basic Guide to FTP & Web Space.
5. Open the folder on your computer that contains your web site pages and drag the files from this window into the browser
window. For security purposes you may be asked to confirm your User ID or Password. Remember, these details are the same as your Freeola User Name and Freeola Password.
6. To download a file to your machine from the server, right click (PC) or hold your mouse button down
(Macintosh) on the file and then select 'Save As...' then choose where
you would like to save the file.
7. NOTE: You must make sure that you have folder view for FTP enabled in your browser in order to upload using this method. To check whether IE is configured for FTP, click on 'Tools' then 'Internet Options'. Click on the 'Advanced' tab and put a tick in the box labelled 'Enable folder view for FTP'. Click 'Apply' then 'OK'.
