Welcome to the Freeola Internet customer support pages. This guide is designed to help with uploading your website via FTP using Dreamweaver CS3 for any Freeola hosted website. For more internet help topics please visit our main Support Page.

In order to upload files to any Freeola hosted website you will need to access your webspace via FTP. Most, if not all, web design programs feature an element of FTP uploading, this page gives brief instructions on one of these, Dreamweaver CS3.

1. Before you start with the FTP upload please ensure at this point that you have your Freeola internet connection currently connected or your domain name is signed up for our VIP Hosting service. For further information on uploading via FTP please read our Basic Guide to FTP and Web Space.

2. The first step is to set up a site profile for your Freeola hosted website. Load up Dreamweaver, select Site from the menu and then select Manage Sites.

3. In the Manage Sites dialogue window select New and then select FTP RDS server.

4. This window will allow you to give a name to your site, this has no bearing on how the program will connect to your web space. However, I would advise you label your website something memorable and unqiue from any other sites you may upload to. For example, your domain name or web address would be advisable to be entered as a domain label.

5. In order to upload files to the web server you will first need the FTP server, username and password. If you do not already have this information to hand it is available from within your MyFreeola account by selecting 'My Websites' from the left-hand menu.

6. The FTP host needs to be set to the web server name your web site is hosted on. The hostname will be in the form of 'freeolawebX.freeola.net' (vipX.freeola.net for VIP Hosting customers). Host directory should be set to 'htdocs'. Enter your FTP username within the Login field. The FTP username will vary depending on your Freeola hosting package, VIP Hosting customers will have a username in the form of vip0000000 whilst other customers will have an sr number username. The password for your FTP space needs to be entered within the Password field. Please ensure that Use passive FTP is ticked as this can help with users connecting from behind firewalls. Once the information is entered as above click the OK button and then select Done.

7. You can now save files to the remote webserver by going to the File menu then selecting Save to Remote Server. Please note that your default page (the first page that people see when they visit your web site address) should be called index.html (or .php for PHP files), this file needs to be lowercase. All files and folders you wish to be displayed on your website need to be uploaded in the htdocs folder.

8. Once the files are appearing within the remote server the upload will be complete, closing the Save to Remote window will save these changes to the webspace. To view the web page(s) you have uploaded open your chosen internet browser and type in your web address, if uploaded correctly your site will display on-screen.
