VIP Secure Authentication

Welcome to the Freeola Internet customer support pages. This guide is designed to help with enabling FTP encryption for logging into our VIP FTP servers. For more internet help topics please visit our main Support Page.

In order to further increase security on our VIP web servers we have introduced the option of using encrypted user names and password when connecting via FTP. By enabling this option, your password will travel the internet in encrypted form rather than plain text. This is especially useful if you are connected via a public network rather than via a personal ADSL connection, or if you are using a public computer to upload, such as from a cybercafe.

Not every FTP client supports encryption, however there is a list of FTP clients below which have been tested by Freeola to work, along with instructions for enabling its use on them. Even if your software is not listed below, it is possible that you will be able to enable encrption anyway assuming the client supports it.

Filezilla (http://filezilla-project.org/download.php) (Both Windows and Mac version tested)

To create a secure connection in Filezilla, select the option Site Manager from the File menu, select the option New Site and change the Servertype to FTPES – FTP over explicit TLS/SSL, all other settings will be the same.

CuteFTP (http://www.cuteftp.com) (Not available on CuteFTP Lite)

To create a secure connection in CuteFTP, select the option New FTPS(SSL) Site from the File menu, and tick the Clear Data Channel box on the Type Tab, all other settings should be the same.

Cyberduck (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/internet_utilities/cyberduck.html)

To create a secure connection in Cyberduck select the option Open Connection from the File menu, and change the the Protocol type to FTPS(FTP/SSL), all other settings should be the same.

Fetch (http://fetchsoftworks.com/)

To enable SSL in Fetch. Change the Connect Using option to FTP with TLS/SSL and then untick the option to Enable Encryption, (this will not affect authentication which will continue to be encrypted.).

SmartFTP (http://www.smartftp.com)

To create a secure connection in SmartFTP, select the option New Remote Browser from the File menu, and change the protocol to FTP over SSL Explicit, from there all other settings should be the same.
