Mozilla Thunderbird Version 3 or Higher Setup for Freeola Email

Welcome to the Freeola Internet customer support pages. This guide is designed to help with setting up your Freeola e-mail address on Mozilla Thunderbird version 3 or greater. For a guide on previous versions of this program, please click here. For more internet help topics please visit our main Support Page.

Please Note

If you are using EmailPro, please see the EmailPro version of this guide as the settings and options vary slightly.

If you do not already have Thunderbird installed, you should be able to download it from the Mozilla website. Alternatively, if you would prefer to use another e-mail client, you may be able to find a relevant guide on the Freeola E-mail Support Guides page.

Before you start, you should make a note of the E-mail Address that you would like to setup as well as the associated sr number and password. This information can be obtained by logging in to your MyFreeola account and selecting View/Edit E-mail Addresses from the left-hand navigation. You will then be shown a list of e-mail addresses and their login details.

  1. Load Mozilla Thunderbird from the Windows Start Menu. If this is the first time that you have loaded Mozilla Thunderbird and you are automatically shown the email setup, please skip to step 4.

  2. Next, you will need to select Tools and then Account Settings from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

  3. Now press the Account Actions button and select Add Mail Account.

  4. You will then need to enter your Name, Email Address and Password into the boxes provided. Your E-mail Address and Password should have already been obtained from within your MyFreeola Account and your Name will be the name that you would like your e-mails to say they're from when they are received. Once this form is complete press Continue to continue.

  5. In the next window you will be asked to enter your User name and Freeola's e-mail settings. Freeola's incoming mail server is a POP3 server and the server address is mail.freeola.net with a port of 110. The incoming mail server encryption should be set to "None". Your User name will be your full e-mail address. If you do not already have this information, it can be obtained from within your MyFreeola Account.

The outgoing mail server settings will vary depending on whether you are connecting using a Freeola Internet connection or if you are using the Freeola Email Freedom service which allows you to send messages from any Internet connection. If you have Freeola broadband in your MyFreeola account, you are provided with Freeola E-mail Freedom at no extra cost.

If you are connecting to the Internet using a Freeola Internet connection, the outgoing mail server should be set to smtp.freeola.net using port 25, this server's encryption should be set to "None".

Alternatively, if you have Freeola E-mail Freedom in your MyFreeola account, you will be able to use smtp-auth.freeola.net as your outgoing mail server. Some ISPs may also prevent you from sending mail over port 25, in order to avoid this you may also wish to change your outgoing mail port to 2025.

If you then press Retest Configuration, Thunderbird will check your settings and you should notice and orange circle appear to the left of both the incoming and outgoing servers. This is to indicate that Thunderbird believes the settings are correct.

Now press Create account, you should see the following warning. In order to continue, you will need to Tick the box and press Create Account. This warning is displayed as Freeola's email service does not use Secure Sockets Layer, which is an optional encryption layer that provides extra data security and is not required for a secure email service.

  6. If you then press Manual Setup, then OK to close the wizard, your settings should be saved and your e-mail client should now be configured and ready for use.
