Android Setup for Freeola Email

Welcome to the Freeola Internet customer support pages. This guide is designed to help with setting up your Freeola e-mail address on the Android operating system. For more internet help topics please visit our main Support Page.

Please Note

If you are using EmailPro, please see the EmailPro version of this guide as the settings and options vary slightly.

Setting up e-mail accounts on the Android operating system is fairly easy, you simply need to follow the step by step process and you should be set up within minutes.

  1. To configure Freeola e-mail addresses on Android, you need to select the 'Email' button from the main menu and then press Next.

  2. You will now be prompted for your e-mail address and your e-mail account password, simply type these into the necessary fields and press Next. If you are given the option for Push Notification, you will need to ensure that this is Not Ticked.

  3. From the list of account types, press the 'POP3 account' button.

  4. You will now be asked for your E-mail Account information, the username field will be your e-mail address, the e-mail account password, the incoming e-mail server is 'mail.freeola.net'. You can find these details in your MyFreeola account within the View/Edit Email Addresses section. The other options on this page are not necessary, when you are happy with your details press Next.

  5. If your details are correct, then you will be asked for your outgoing e-mail server details. If you are using a Freeola connection over WIFI, then smtp.freeola.net will work fine. However we would suggest to use our E-mail Freedom service, which has the server 'smtp-auth.freeola.net'. If you do use the E-mail Freedom server, you will need to enable the option 'Require Sign In', and type your E-mail Account username (e-mail address) and password into the stated fields. Once you are happy with your details, press Next.

  6. Your Android device will now establish whether the details you have entered are correct, if they are you will be able to download your messages and send messages from your Freeola E-mail Address.

I followed these instructions to the letter, three times. Did not work. Came up with a message 'Could not connect to server'. :((

Can you help?

Hi Bobby,

Normally this type of error message suggests an issue either with the network connection on your device or, more likely, the settings you have entered within it.

Unfortunately without further information from yourself, it will not be possible to troubleshoot this issue in a simple comment reply. I would recommend contacting our Support Team at https://secure.freeola.com/support/request/ and we should be able to assist you further.

My email, on HTC android phone, works fine sending and receiving when i am connected using my home (or any) wi-fi.

It will receive email when using the mobile "3" network.

It will not SEND emails when using the mobile network!

I am using: smtp-auth.freeola.net

There don't seem to be any more settings to try.

Any ideas?

lordburnden this is likely to be a problem with the mobile network 'stealing' the outgoing SMTP connection to stop spamming. We have setup an easy workaround for this and all you need to do is change your outgoing (SMTP) port number from 25 to 2025.

Thanks Bob, that has certainly cured the problem.

It also explains why I could never send email from my laptop when i was on my brother-in-law's wifi in Cyprus.

The laptop uses Ubuntu Linux and their email client (evolution) does not have an explicit field for the port number so you have to tack it onto the end of the server.

i.e. smtp-auth.freeola.net:2025

when I enter my user name should I be using my srnnnnnnn-nnn or just my normal email address.

I seem to be able to receive emails but am unable to send (via Wi-fi connection)

Hi MartinW,

Your email address should be entered into the username field during the setup process.

If you have having trouble sending messages out, your network provider may be blocking port 25. If you change the outgoing port to 2025, this should allow you to send.

My setup did not initially work. However, I changed the port number from 587 to 25 and it worked straight away.
