Setting Up Email in Mozilla Thunderbird

Welcome to the Freeola Internet customer support pages. This guide is designed to help with setting up an email address within Mozilla Thunderbird. For more internet help topics please visit our main Support Page.

Here are brief instructions for setting up Mozilla Thunderbird to work with a Freeola e-mail address. These instructions should be relevant to all current versions of Mozilla Thunderbird. There may be slight visual/wording differences between versions but the underlying procedure is the same.

1. Load Mozilla Thunderbird.

2. (If the 'Account Wizard' pops up, skip to step 3). From the menu bar select Tools, then Account Settings. In the window that opens, select the Add Account button.

3. Select Email Account and click Next.

4. Enter the name you want to appear on outgoing e-mails from yourself. For example if your name is John Smith you may want to enter 'John Smith' or 'Mr J Smith' within this field. Enter your Freeola e-mail address within the Email Address field. Click the Next to continue.

5. The Incoming e-mail server type should be set to POP, if it is not set to this select this from the available options. Enter mail.freeola.net into the POP3 incoming server box and click Next.

6. In the Incoming User Name field you will need to enter your Freeola E-Mail User Name. This will take the form of an 'sr' number, for example sr0123456-001. This will also need to be entered within the corresponding Outgoing User Name field. Please Note: This information is case sensitive and will not work if entered incorrectly. If you do not have this information to hand it is readily available through the View/Edit E-mail Addresses link within the left-hand navigation section of your MyFreeola account. Click Next to continue.

7. Choose a name for this e-mail account that you can remember and recognise, for example, 'John's e-mail' or 'Dad's e-mail'. To continue click Next.

8. Click Finish on the Account Wizard window to complete this Set-up.

9. On the Account Settings page select the Outgoing Server (SMTP) option and then Add. This will bring up a new window titled SMTP Server.

10. smtp.freeola.net needs to be entered into the Server Name box, the Port can be kept at the default setting of 25. Untick the option Use name and password. Click OK to return to the Account Settings window.

Please Note: This SMTP server will only work on Freeola Internet connections. If you have signed up for Freeola Email Freedom please click here for setting up your SMTP server details.

11. Click OK to complete this process.

12. Your e-mail address is now set up in Mozilla Thunderbird and is ready to send and receive e-mail. To do so, simply click Get Mail on the menu bar at the top of Mozilla Thunderbird.

13. When you use this e-mail address for the first time you will be prompted to enter a password, this needs to be your Freeola E-Mail Password. Please Note: This information is case sensitive and will not work if entered incorrectly. If you do not have this information to hand it is readily available through the View/Edit E-mail Addresses link within the left-hand navigation section of your MyFreeola account.
