E-Mail: Setting Up Netscape Communicator

Here are brief instructions for setting up Netscape Communicator to work with a Freeola e-mail address. The instructions are designed for either Mac or Windows versions of Communicator although there may be some slight differences.

Please note that Netscape Communicator tends to be quite complicated to set up more than one account compared to Microsoft Outlook Express. For this reason we recommend you use Outlook Express if you require more than one e-mail address on the same machine. Outlook Express comes with as standard with most Windows versions these days. The Outlook Express set-up guide can be found here.

1. Run Netscape.

2. Go to the 'Edit' menu and select 'Preferences'.

3. If you are using an Apple Macintosh, select identity from 'Mail & Newsgroups' and make sure that the 'Use Internet Config' is disabled.

4. Select 'Mail Servers' from 'Mail & Newsgroups'.

5. If there is already an Incoming Mail Server listed in the 'Incoming Mail Servers' section then click on it and click 'Edit' otherwise click 'Add'.

6. In the 'Mail Server info' window, the settings should be as follows:

Server Name 'mail.freeola.net'
Server Type 'POP'
User Name 'Your Freeola E-Mail User Name'.

If you do not have this information, visit MyFreeola and make a note of the information for the relevant e-mail address which can be found in the 'E-mail Addresses' section. It will look something like this: 'sr0123456-001'.

7. If you want the e-mail program to remember your password, tick the 'Save Password' option but don't enter the password yet.

8. Once you are satisfied with the settings click 'OK'.

9. The preferences window in the 'Outgoing Mail Server' area should be set as follows:

Outgoing mail (SMTP) server 'smtp.freeola.net'
Outgoing mail server user name 'Your Freeola E-Mail User Name'

10. Once you are happy with your settings, you may then click 'OK'.

To send and receive e-mail, run Netscape Messenger from within the Netscape Navigator program.
