Dial up settings & modem set up for Windows XP Home Edition

Here are full instructions for setting up a Dial-Up Networking (DUN) Connection on your Windows XP based computer and how to configure your modem settings.

Please note, this guide assumes your XP system is running in the 'Classic View' mode. This mode is designed to make Windows XP feel more like previous versions. To change your computer to 'Classic View' mode, click on 'Start', 'Control Panel'. In the top left hand corner under the 'Control Panel' heading click 'Switch to classic view'.

1. Click on the 'Start Menu', then choose 'Control Panel' and double click on the 'Network Connections' icon.

2. From the left-hand side bar under 'Network Tasks' choose 'Create a new connection'. This will launch the 'New Connection Wizard'. Click 'Next'.

3. Choose the 'Connect to the Internet' option, click 'Next'.

4. At this screen, choose 'Set up my connection manually', click 'Next'.

5. At this screen, choose 'Connect using a dial-up modem', click 'Next'.

6. In the 'Connection Name' box type a name for the new connection, such as 'Freeola', then click the 'Next' button.

7. In the 'Phone number to dial' box, enter '0845 604 3080' or '0845 604 3070' (use the number that works best for you) then click the 'Next' button.

If you are using Freeola Anytime then please use the number 0808 993 3413.

8. In the 'Username' box, enter your Freeola Freeola User Name In the 'Password' box, enter your Freeola Password. Do the same in the 'Confirm password' box. If you haven't signed up to Freeola yet, just use the Username of 'freeola' and Password of 'freeola' for immediate free and fast web access. Please note that the freeola/freeola combination only supports web browsing - it does not allow you to send or receive e-mail and some other services may be disabled. If this is the only Internet connection you use, click the box labelled 'Make this the default Internet connection'. Untick 'Turn on Internet firewall for this connection' and then click the 'Next' button.

9. At the final window you can add a desktop shortcut to your Freeola connection by ticking 'Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop'. This will allow you to easily connect to the Internet through an icon on your desktop. Click the 'Finish' button.

10. You will be taken back to the 'Network Connections' window where you should be able to see the newly created icon. Double click on the new icon. When the 'Connect' window comes up, click the 'Properties' button.

11. When the 'Properties' window comes up, click on the 'Networking' tab, make sure 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' is selected in the middle box, then click the 'Properties' button. Set 'Address' and 'DNS servers' to 'Obtain Automatically'. Click 'OK' and you are ready to connect.
