There are different types of access equipment on each number to enable maximum compatibility but most people should find that either number will provide a fast reliable connection. Both are local rate telephone numbers and depending on your telephone provider should attract very low call rates.
Modems
Freeola supports pretty much all analogue modems up to 56K. If your connection speed and reliability are poor we recommend that you try the other Dial-Up Access Telephone Number. Unfortunately we do not yet support the advanced V92 modem standard although V92 modems should still connect to Freeola without any problems.
ISDN or BT Home Highway
You can use ISDN or BT Highway to connect digitally to Freeola. Our access equipment on both numbers supports the vast majority of ISDN terminal adaptors and the standard connection speed is 64K which is also known as a 'Single Channel Connection'. However, with Freeola, providing you use the 0845 604 3070 access number you can use the 'Multilink PPP' standard to connect with more than one channel.
Generally, home customers will probably only be able to use two channels (BT Highway only provides two channels) but if you use both channels you'll be able to surf at a pleasant 128K. Remember though, for each additional channel you use, you are making another separate phone call to Freeola for billing purposes. This means that for a 5 minute connection at 128K you'll see two 5 minute phone calls on your phone bill itemisation.
Business customers may be able to connect using more channels and Freeola regularly receives calls from customers using 8 channels! That's a massive 512K which is marginally faster than a broadband ADSL connection! This is a great option for downloading large files and avoiding the 'world wide wait'.
Remember, Multilink PPP connections are only supported on 0845 604 3070 and for each channel used it is likely that you will generate further telephone call charges (albeit at local rate).
Speeding Up Your Freeola Connection Time
Whether you're using an ISDN adaptor or an analogue modem you should be able to decrease the time it takes to connect to the Freeola service by disabling any unnecessary network protocols. This can be done on most Windows systems by right-clicking on your Freeola connection icon in the Dial-Up Network Connections area and selecting 'Properties'. Click on the 'Servers' tab and untick 'Log on to Network', 'NETBUI' and 'IPX'. You should ONLY have 'Enable Software Compression' and 'TCP/IP' ticked. Click 'OK'.
