This document is designed as a set-up guide for customers who are entitled to use our complimentary freephone back-up service (normally if you have a repair outstanding on your broadband connection). Entitlement to use this service will be notified in writing complete with user name, password and other information.

Please ensure that your PC has a dial-up modem installed to use this connection and that your phone line does not block caller id.

Connections: PC running Windows XP Home Edition (Classic View Mode)

Please note, this guide assumes your XP system is running in the 'Classic View' mode. This mode is designed to make Windows XP feel more like previous versions. To change your computer to 'Classic View' mode, click on 'Start', 'Control Panel'. In the top left hand corner under the 'Control Panel' heading click 'Switch to classic view'.

1. Click on the 'Start Menu', then choose 'Control Panel' and double click on the 'Network Connections' icon.

2. From the left-hand side bar under 'Network Tasks' choose 'Create a new connection'. This will launch the 'New Connection Wizard'. Click 'Next'.

3. Choose the 'Connect to the Internet' option, click 'Next'.

4. At this screen, choose 'Set up my connection manually', click 'Next'.

5. At this screen, choose 'Connect using a dial-up modem', click 'Next'.

6. In the 'Connection Name' box type a name for the new connection, such as 'Freeola', then click the 'Next' button.

7. In the 'Phone number to dial' box, enter '0808 993 3413' then click the 'Next' button.

8. In the 'Username' box, enter the Freeola User Name stated in your letter. In the 'Password' box, enter the Freeola Password as stated in your letter. Do the same in the 'Confirm password' box. If this is the only Internet connection you use, click the box labelled 'Make this the default Internet connection' and then click the 'Next' button.

9. At the final window you can add a desktop shortcut to your Freeola connection by ticking 'Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop'. This will allow you to easily connect to the Internet through an icon on your desktop. Click the 'Finish' button.

10. You will be taken back to the 'Network Connections' window where you should be able to see the newly created icon. Double click on the new icon. When the 'Connect' window comes up, click the 'Properties' button.

11. When the 'Properties' window comes up, click on the 'Networking' tab, make sure 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' is selected in the middle box, then click the 'Properties' button. Set 'Address' and 'DNS servers' to 'Obtain Automatically'. Click 'OK' and you are ready to connect.




Connections: PC running Windows ME

1. Click Start / Settings / Dial-Up Networking.

2. Double click on the 'Make New Connection' icon to open the 'Connection Wizard'. Now enter the name 'Freeola' where it says 'Type a name for the computer you are dialling'. Make sure your modem or ISDN adaptor is selected where it says 'Select a device'. Click 'Next' to continue.

3. Enter the Freeola Dial-Up Access Number number '0808 993 3413' and make sure that the Country region is set to 'United Kingdom (44)'. Click 'Next'.

4. Click 'Finish'.

5. Click Start / Settings / Dial-Up Networking and double-click on your 'Freeola' icon to open the connection.

6. In the 'Username' box, enter the Freeola User Name stated in your letter. In the 'Password' box, enter the Freeola Password as stated in your letter. Tick 'Save Password'.

7. Click 'Connect'. At this point your computer will start to dial. Leave the computer to fully connect and then load your web browser to check whether things are working. Once you have conducted this test, disconnect by double-clicking the modem symbol on the bottom right hand corner of your screen.

8. To make a Desktop shortcut to your Freeola Dial up Connection, right click on the 'Freeola' icon in your Dial up Networking folder and choose 'Send To' then 'Desktop (create shortcut)'.




Connections: PC running Windows 95 or Windows 95/98

1. Double-click the 'My Computer' icon located on your Desktop.
2. Double-click on 'Dial-Up Networking'.

3. Double-click on 'Make New Connection'.

4. Select your modem type and give the connection a name you will easily remember (such as Freeola or My Internet). Click the 'Next' button.


5. At the prompt type in the connection phone number, 0808 993 3413 and click 'Next'.


6. Check that the name of the connection is okay then click 'Finish'. This will create an icon in your Dial-Up Networking folder with that name.

7. The following optional stage may speed up modem connecting times but there is no obligation to complete this stage. Right-click on the connection icon you just created and choose 'Properties', this will open the connection properties box. Click on the 'Servers' tab and untick 'Log on to Network', 'NETBUI' and 'IPX'. You should ONLY have 'Enable Software Compression' and 'TCP/IP' ticked. Click OK.

8. To connect to Freeola using the connection you just created, double-click its icon in My Computer -> Dial-Up Networking folder.

9. At this stage you are asked for a Freeola User name and a Freeola Password. In the 'Username' box, enter the Freeola User Name stated in your letter. In the 'Password' box, enter the Freeola Password as stated in your letter. Tick the box that says Save Password otherwise you'll need to enter it everytime you connect.

10. Click 'Connect' to dial-up to the Internet and then load a browser program such as Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer or an e-mail program such as Microsoft Outlook Express.




Connections: PC running Windows 2000

1. Click Start / Settings / Control Panel. Double click on Network and Dial-Up Connections.

2. Double click on the Make New Connection which starts the Connection Wizard. Click 'Next' to continue.

3. Choose Dial-up to the Internet and click 'Next' to continue.

4. Choose I want to set up my Internet connection manually and click 'Next' to continue.

5. Choose I connect through a phone line and a modem and click 'Next' to continue.

6. Enter the Telephone number 0808 993 3413. In the Country Code/Region field choose United Kingdom(44) Tick Use area code and dialing rules and click 'Next' to continue.

7. In the 'Username' box, enter the Freeola User Name stated in your letter. In the 'Password' box, enter the Freeola Password as stated in your letter. Tick Save Password and click 'Next' to continue.

8. In the Connection Name field enter Freeola and click 'Next' to continue.

9. Tick Connect to the Internet immediately and click 'Finish' to continue.

10. The Dial-Up Connection Box should now appear. Click 'Connect'. At this point your computer will start to dial. Leave the computer to fully connect and then load your web browser to check whether things are working. Once you have conducted this test, disconnect by double-clicking the modem symbol on the bottom right hand corner of your screen.

11. To make a Desktop shortcut to your Freeola Dial up Connection, right click on the 'Freeola' icon in your Dial up Networking folder and choose Send To then Desktop (create shortcut).




Connections: Computer Set-Up: iMac/PowerMac (MacOSX)

1. Click on the Apple Menu in the top left corner of your screen and choose Location then Network Preferences.

2. In the window that opens next, click on Locations drop down menu and choose New Location. In the 'Name your new location' field enter Freeola then click OK

3. Now click on the PPP tab and enter your Freeola User Name supplied in your letter, in the Account Name field and enter your Freeola Password supplied in your letter in the Password field. In the Telephone Number field enter 0808 993 3413. Tick 'Show modem status in menu bar'.

4. Next , click on the TCP/IP tab and choose Using PPP from the Configure drop down menu, all others fields should be left blank. Click the Apply Now button to save your Freeola profile settings.

5. To connect to the Internet using your Freeola dial-up connection you can either, click on the telephone icon on the menu bar located in the top right corner of your screen and then choose your Freeola connection or click on the Apple Menu and choose Location and then choose your Freeola connection.




Connections: Computer Set-Up: iMac/PowerMac (MacOS 8/9)

1. Double-click the 'Internet Setup Assistant' icon located in your Internet folder.

2. Click 'Yes' to the question 'Would you like to set up your computer to use the internet?'

3. Click 'Yes' to the question 'Do you already have an Internet Account?' and click the right arrow to continue.

4. Name the connection configuration 'Freeola', make sure 'Modem' is chosen and click the right arrow.

5. Accept the defaults for modem settings and click the right arrow to continue.

6. Enter '0808 993 3413' for the phone number.

7. At this stage you are asked for a Freeola User Name and Freeola Password, enter the ones supplied in your letter.

8. Click the right arrow.

9. Click 'No' to the question 'Is there an IP address for this configuration?' and click the right arrow.

10. Keep the default of 'No' when asked whether you need a 'PPP Script', then click the right arrow to continue.

11. Do not enter anything into the 'Domain Name Servers' box, click the right arrow to continue.

12. Do not enter anything into the 'e-mail address' screen and click the right arrow to continue.

13. Do not enter anything into the 'Newsgroup Host' screen and click the right arrow.

14. Click 'No' to the proxy server question and click the right arrow to continue.

15. On the final page of the Assistant, click 'Go Ahead' to set the computer up for use with Freeola.

16. To connect to Freeola, just load your web browsing program such as Netscape, Internet Explorer or your e-mail program such as Microsoft Outlook Express. If your computer does not automatically dial the internet (or hang up), use the program called REMOTE ACCESS STATUS which can be found on the Apple Menu. This program is used to manually connect and disconnect from the internet.




Connections: Computer Set-Up: Older Mac Computers

1. In the Apple Menu Control Panels select the TCP/IP control panel.

2. Select 'connect via PPP'.

3. You now need a Freeola User Name and Freeola Password, enter the ones supplied in your letter.

4. Enter 0808 993 3413 for the Dial-Up Phone Number.

5. Enter the TCP/IP Control Panel from the Apple menu.

6. In the 'Connect Via' section select 'PPP Server'.

7. In the 'Configure' section select 'Using PPP Server'.

8. In the 'Name Server Address' box type in '195.74.113.58'

9. In the 'Secondary Name Server Address' box type in '195.74.113.62'

10. Exit from TCP/IP and restart your Macintosh.

11. Loading a web browser or e-mail program should make your computer connect to the Internet.
