- DataTern has settled two patent suits filed against Sun Microsystems in the US District Court of Texas that alleged infringement of its database patents.

- AT&T has won a three-year $13.5m contract from Republic Services to provide network services for supporting the integration and consolidation of the merger of Republic Services and Allied Waste announced last December.

- Philips Electronics North America has reached a patent settlement with Japanese electronics firm AtratechJapan that accused several electronics giants of infringing its TV backlighting technology.

- Communications chipmaker Broadcom has increased its offer for SAN specialist Emulex from $764m to $912m as the company looks to expand its capabilities to offer an integrated one-stop shop for key networking and storage technologies.

- India-based IT services vendor Mahindra Satyam has appointed Rakesh Soni as chief operating officer and AS Murty as chief technology officer. The company also brought in other organizational changes aimed at sustaining the recovery of the firm.
- CACI Wins $125m US Army Contract
- Defense and homeland security contractor CACI International has won a three-year $125m contract from the US Army to provide software engineering support for its fire support systems.
- HCL Wins Dr Pepper Snapple Group Deal
- India-based IT services vendor HCL Technologies has won a five-year contract from US-based beverages firm Dr Pepper Snapple Group, DPS, to provide IT application and infrastructure operations and management services. Datamonitor estimates the contract to be worth approximately $60m.
- L-3 Wins $375m US Air Force Contract
- L-3 Communications’ MPRI division has won a five-year $375m follow-on contract from the US Air Forces Europe, USAFE, to provide a variety of advisory and assistance services.
- Saab Acquires Tieto’s JV Stake
- Swedish aerospace and defense group Saab has acquired Tieto’s 60% stake in their joint venture TietoSaab Systems.
