Boy racer is a stereotype, colloquial and slang term and also a popular subculture based around enthusiasm for vehicles and motorsport. "Boy racer" is now a New Zealand, British and Irish colloquial stereotype of a person, usually imagined as a male in his late teens or early twenties, who drives his car for fun or competition. There is an often espoused distinction between "boy racers" and "car enthusiasts", typically stemming from social stigmas caused by a moral panic and related desire to not be associated with the deleterious connotations the "boy racer" title can carry.
